Shoutout LA is a magazine which promotes successful entrepreneurs and inspiring artists in the community. The interviewees share their stories that can have an impact on members of the community in Los Angeles, hence inspire upcoming rising stars.

Fortunately, the Shoutout LA team has chosen to interview the managing partner at Victory Tax Lawyers, Parham Khorsandi, Esq., as they shared an interesting conversation regarding the law firm’s success.

Hi Parham, what is the most important factor behind your success?

“The most important factor in running a successful business is QUALITY. You can spend so much money on advertising, and infrastructure, and employees and sales–BUT, if you do not provide the quality of service to back it up, you will have nothing at the end. Yes, you can get by with mediocre quality, and be profitable. However, if you want to have a sustaining business, quality starts at the top. You should not have to sell yourself, or your product or service, they should be able to sell themselves. The quality and level of service need to be so good, that there is no other option. Simply put you are the best, and it needs to show in your work. At my office, we strive for perfection. We obviously don’t attain on every level, but we work for perfection. It shows in our service, it shows in how we pick up the phone, and how we onboard clients. If it’s not perfect, then it’s not right. That’s the model.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Victory Tax Lawyers, LLP (VTL) is a law firm specializing in tax controversy, resolution and litigation. We serve individual and corporate taxpayers with simple to complex matters. VTL consists of only attorneys with a minimum of 10 years experience working in the field. Our firm prides itself on its communication and commitment to its clients. In our industry, it is very typical for the initial call to be with a salesperson. That salesperson’s job is to get as many people to pay as much money, regardless of the outcome. We have totally changed that dynamic. At our office, we make sure every consultation is with a licensed attorney, and not a salesperson. This sets us apart from others in a major way. I initially got into the industry working for a large “tax resolution” company. I spent 6 years there, giving my all for someone else to get rich. Once I was completely confident in my abilities, I opened my own law firm. I would not have been able to scale my law firm, or put the correct infrastructure if not for my 6 years of “residency”. We all need that. We all need a few years of working for someone else to get a foundational idea of what the industry is about. If you don’t put in that work, you can still be successful, but it will take longer and with more mistakes. There are three values that can make any business thrive. Professionalism, communication and reliability. If you have those three, you can sell anything and provide any service. When the phone rings, everyone in the office is extremely professional. The emails are all professional as well (high-end training helps). The #1 complaint in the service industry, especially among attorneys, is the communication. Clients complain that their attorney does not get back to them, or takes a couple weeks to respond. We avoid that completely, as every call and email is answered within a couple hours. Lastly, when providing a service or product, the consumer/client wants reliability. They want to know that the company will be providing the same consistent service/product throughout the relationship. Those three things have majorly led to our success.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

“With COVID-19, it has become more and more difficult to go out and enjoy a day/night in LA. However, we have also learned of the beauty of CA. For now, my family and I are enjoying picnics at the park, and the LA beaches. In addition, we have gone up to the mountains for some snow activity. We take this city for granted. There is nothing more relaxing than picking up food, and eating it outdoors. Unfortunately, we cannot go to malls, or theme parks, or anything like that. For better or for worse, we are forced to be one with nature alone.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

“The Wives/Husbands/Significant Others! Running a successful, sustaining business is brutal. There are great sacrifices, with great rewards. However, it cannot be done without the support of your significant other. They are the ones who need to give you that extra push, They are the ones to build the confidence when you are working out of a busted office space with barely anything to your name. The SO (significant other) needs to be the rock for you to lean on. If you are trying to start/run a business, and your SO is giving you pushback, or is unsupportive, that business will fail. I have two small children at home, and my wife works as well. I consider myself a hand-on father. My wife has always been the one to push me to do better, and do more. Yes, it can be frustrating at times, but that nudge is necessary. She always said, bring your stature up, and the rest will follow. Her support is just as important as any other aspect of my business.”
